Kensington makes dinner with me most nights. She doesn't care what we're making...she just wants to be a part of the action. Last night, she came into the kitchen wearing her chef stuff (normally used along side her pretend kitchen in her room). It was serious dinner making time!

What we've been up to...

...potty training.

On Thursday, I began the 3 Day Potty Training method with Smith. I didn't leave his sight for three straight day. It was "Mommy and Smith" time 24/7. By Saturday, he totally had the hang of it. I kept him home all day Sunday just to be sure and he once again proved to be the easiest child ever. (Not that I still don't expect an occasional accident or set back...but he has really, really shown me that he's capable and able to not wear diapers any more.) So....yesterday, we went to the gym and the park. At the park, Smith told me he needed to potty, so I pulled out my handy little potty (because the park doesn't have a restroom) and was going to discretely let him go. Well...he wanted to potty right next to Sheaffer (he loves him some Sheaffer) and right inside the park. The two three year olds were totally entertained by his pottying. As you can see, his big sister even brought along a snack to eat while watching.

Ahhh...the joys of potty training small children. Thankfully, we were the only ones at the park. I would have kept this little tidbit a secret but Sheaffer took pictures and already posted them on her blog. The cat is out of the bag now. My kid likes to potty in public in front of an audience. :)

What Smith did on his birthday...

...Mommy and Daddy woke him up with lots of singing and loudness. He has this "my parents are so weird" look on his face. And he has his Buzz Lightyear pjs on. We thought it best to start his second year off in his favorite jammys :).

Then we met Smith's bestie Nixon and his big sister Ebby Lee for lunch at McDonald's. I love these boys!

Ebby Lee looked smashing yesterday in her leopard and True Religion jeans. If you know me, you know that I'm a bit of a jean snob...so Ebby Lee was totally rockin' my world yesterday.

Big sis Kensington was super happy to be having lunch with friends!

Then for dinner, Smith's sweet parents (that's us!), took him to dinner at Rainforest Cafe.

After dinner, it was off for a cookie (of course, he's carrying a truck with him).

So glad Lovie, Papa Jay and Uncle Seanie came to dinner!

Today, my sweet baby boy turns two years old! It just seems like yesterday that I went to the hospital not knowing if I'd be bringing home a Smith William or an Ashby London. I always say Kensington is our miracle baby and Smith is the icing on the cake. God truly demonstrated his love for us when he gave this sweet boy to me. Smith William bears the name of my Granddaddy who I know would be so proud of the little man he is today. Happy Birthday Smith!

Smith's Ski Lodge (Part 2)

It just seems like yesterday we had Smith's First Par-Tee and now we've already had his second! The first post, was all food and decor, here are a few pictures of the actual birthday boy on his party day...

My dad took Smith outside to get his picture by the snowman...not the greatest picture but as you can see, he's happy to be at his ski lodge!

Smith (and Kensington) was super excited to open his new toys. He really wanted dinosaurs like his big friends Carter and Luke have.

This hippo bus came from my dad's parents...who would have thought a bus shaped like a hippo would be such a hit with both my kids. They have played and played with this hippo bus for two days straight!

Smith was super, super excited to get some Vans thanks to Lovie and Papa Jay!

Yesterday was Smith William's 2nd birthday party! Where has the time gone??? We had our traditional "big family birthday" party (I have a big, crazy, fun family that celebrates birthdays like no body's business) and it was a blast. There are way too many pictures for one post...so here are the photos of the party decor and food...pictures of actual people to come...but for now...this is how Smith's Ski Lodge looked...

Every year, I have a sign made for my kids' birthday parties. I hope to have a wall full of these signs one day (so far...we have 6!) The fabulous sign AND snow man were created by the super talented Amy Kulak. Contact me and I'll get you her info.

When people came in my entry, it was "snowing" on their heads. I couldn't get a shot of all the snowflakes at once but trust me...there were a lot (I know because I cut them all out!).

Slightly Askew also created my birthday banner and all of my food labels...she's the best. And the sweetest :).

I don't have any pictures today (sorry Grandmother!) but I wanted to tell you about our special day. This morning, I went and spoke at a work thing for about two hours. I needed a babysitter for Smith (Kensington was at pre-school), so I called the best one I knew...Papa Jay. My dad met me there and took Smith off to McDonald's to play. When I got Smith back, he talked happily about the fun time he and Paw-Jay (that's what he calls him) had. I'm so blessed to have a dad that wants to help out with my kids and then does a fantastic job doing it! Thank you Dad!

Then...we came home and had to go get Kensington from school, so it totally screwed up Smith's nap. I called Andrew and said I wouldn't be taking Kensington to gymnastics today because it wasn't fair to sleepy Smith to not nap and then be expected to sit still an hour while she did gymnastics. Five minutes later...Andrew calls back and says Uncle Sean wants to take Kensington to gymnastics. So there you go. Smith is napping and Uncle Seanie has K at gymnastics. Those Lowe men are being awfully sweet to my babies today. Thank you both! I guess what they say is true...like father like son. I have some sweet men in my family. Love!

On Saturday night, we had my cute little ~~cousin neice~~ cousin's daughter's first birthday party! Miss Paisley Marie Brooks Higginbotham turned one year old! It's hard to believe that in a family that went 19 years with no babies, we now have a 3 year old, 2 year old and 1 year old. So fun!

Now that the busy holidays are over, life is back to normal at the Shull house. After dinner, we're up to our usual antics...

...and hang upside down. Don't ask me why but this kid loves to hang upside down. I'll be standing there brushing my teeth and he'll come tug on my pants and say "upside down mama, upside down".

And when she saw that Smith was upside down, Kensington wanted to be upside down too :).

Christmas in Missouri

On Wednesday, we packed up and headed north to Missouri to celebrate Christmas with Andrew's side of the family. All I did was sleep in, stay in my pjs and eat for 3 days. It was glorious. On Thursday night, we got dressed and went into town to grab a bite to eat, grocery shop at Walmart and walk around the mall...

Kensington missed her nap at Nanny's house, so she napped on the way into town.

Here we are at Best Buy...Kensington wanted me to take a picture of her new boots that Lovie bought her.

They rode the carousel at the mall...twice.

They were super excited for me to shop at Crazy 8 because they have cartoons playing in the store.

Then on Friday night, the whole family came out to the farm to celebrate Christmas. Here are the 4 Shull grandkids lined up for their gifts. Kensington (3), Sylvia (2), Brode (5) and Smith (2 in 2 weeks!)

And my girl got Princess stuff...she was in Heaven too.

2011 in Review

Wow! 2011 was a busy, wonderful year! Over the last 12 months, Andrew and I both turned 30, we got ourselves two official toddlers, as a family, we visited 8 countries, Andrew went to New York to see the Yankees and I traveled to Boston to see my Red Sox, we swam almost every single day during the summer, and a special blog became a part of our every day lives. We laughed a lot, loved a lot and felt tremendously blessed the whole year through. Here's a quick review...

January

On the 18th, Smith William turned one year old!

February

After 21 months, in February I got my braces off :)!! Not going to lie...probably my favorite moment of the year. This is me on February 8...the big day!

March

We were happy when Spring came and played outside as much as possible!

April

Andrew turned 30!!

May

Kensington got her cottage at Lovie and Papa Jay's house. It's her home away from home.

June

Our family went to Bermuda for a week where Kensington got her wish and was able to swim with the dolphins. We had so much fun!!

July

With record breaking heat, we swam almost every single day with our friends. These are memories I'll cherish forever. Love you girls!

August

Dad and I made our annual trip to Boston to see the Red Sox play two games. I love Boston. Love it. I love my Dad even more though :).

September

In September, we took a trip of a lifetime with my parents and grandparents. The 8 of us spent two weeks traveling through England, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Russia, Finland and Sweden. It was such a blast...I'll carry these memories with me forever.

We spent November celebrating the holiday season with lots of love and laughter (and plenty of Starbucks and shopping!).

It's hard to believe December has come and gone. What a wonderful Christmas season we had!

2011 was fantastic! I am so excited to see what's in store for us in 2012. I know for sure that there will be two trips to Boston plus a trip to the most magical place on Earth...stay tuned. The Shull fun has just begun...

Shull Family Fun Day!

I have a confession to make...Andrew and I took down all of our Christmas decorations (including all 3 trees and outside lights) on Friday, December 23. I know. I put the decorations up at the beginning of November and remove them before Christmas day. Here's why...we left Friday afternoon for my mom's and knew we wouldn't return until Christmas night, so we wanted our house clean and "mess free" so that we could enjoy Andrew's day off on Monday. I am sooooooo glad we did it. Yesterday, was Shull Family Fun Day :). (Not take "down the decorations day"!).

The 4 of us showed up at the mall at 9:45...we had some things to exchange (something I bought my Grandmother for Christmas was broken in the box, so I had to get that rectified at Williams-Sonoma ASAP!), we walked around and then ate lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. My kids were so good at the mall. I mean, they were seriously super, super sweet and easy going the entire time we were there.

After lunch, we came home and the kids napped for 3 1/2 hours while Andrew watched a movie and I blogged stuff...did laundry...just messed around the house. When they woke up, we went back out to eat (I know! Mix and Match Mama was off yesterday too!) at Manny's in Frisco for some Mexican food. Then we all went by Starbucks where Mommy and Daddy had cappuccinos and the kids had a cookie. It was cold and drizzly and we enjoyed every moment of being cozy together.

So, here are some pictures of our Christmas weekend. We stayed Friday thru Sunday at my parents' house and had THE BEST TIME! We did lots of fun Christmasy things, ate a ton of yummy food and laughed a lot. It was a very special Christmas. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Jammy Cocoa Christmas

Every year, we do "Jammy Cocoa Christmas" with my parents. This means you put your pjs on, climb in the car, go to Starbucks and get goodies and then look at lights. We've been doing it since we were married but it's even more fun with our kiddos!

Someone got himself some big boy undies...

He LOVES them! I only let him try them on and wear them about 2 minutes (long enough for me to take pictures). The week after New Years, we're going to pray hard and then launch into potty training. Right now, I'm just brushing up on my 3 Day Potty Training book, praying, talking to Smith about using the potty, praying, begging Kensington not to tell him any of her bad habits, and praying some more. In the meantime, enjoy the undie photos.

Accidental Happiness

On Friday, we accidentally went to the Frisco Square Holiday Lights. We were coming home from dinner and saw all the fun, so we stopped. I am soooooooo glad we did! The square is decked out with lights that "dance" to Christmas music being piped in through your car radio and/or on the sidewalks around the square. The 4 of us went into the Candy/Popcorn store where Kensington picked a piece of peppermint bark and Smith picked white-chocolate Oreo covered popcorn. We sat on a bench watching the lights and eating our snacks (every time I ate some of Smith's popcorn, he'd say "no Mama" in his sweet little voice. He didn't want to share his popcorn with his Mama.) As we were leaving, we spotted Santa and the kids hopped on his lap to repeat for at least the 8th time what they want for Christmas. As we were taking this picture, it began to "snow" off the buildings...that's what Smith is pointing to. We had the best Friday night!

Kensington's first Christmas program

On Tuesday, Kensington had her first Christmas program at school. Her class wore little puppy dog ears and sang their songs. It was so sweet. So sweet. She waved at us, she sang her heart out, she was precious. I know the teachers worked so hard to produce the program and it was well worth it. We were beaming parents. It was hard to get good pictures but here are two. Love my girl.

As a side note, here's a little secret about Shay you don't know. I used to be in the church choir. Yes. I could sing. When I was 20, I was cast as Mary in our church Christmas musical and had to sing a big solo to a live baby at each performance. (It was my rock star moment in life!) My parents came to all 5 performances and my dad came to almost every single rehearsal. I thought it was sweet and everything but didn't really "get" it until this past Tuesday. I would go back and watch Kensington sing her little songs 5 times if I could. Being a parent and watching your kids do something special is just the best thing ever. Ten years later, I finally get how proud my parents were of me. Thank you Mom and Dad. And PS: last year, when the doctors took my tonsils out, they took my singing ability out as well. It's a good thing they watched me when they did because trust me...no one is going to be asking me to sing any time soon. :)

I have a sad confession to make...back in July, Tulip went to live with another family :(. At first, it was a temporary trial arrangement but they fell in love with Tulip and we fell in love with not having a seizing, barking, child-hating animal in our home. Her new family is just a mom and dad (no small kiddos)...they've already taken her on vacation at least 3 times (they text me and tell me when she's having fun), she goes e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e with them...seriously, they take her with them all the time and she's therefore blissfully happy (and would HATE coming home). It was probably the toughest decision Andrew and I have made as a married couple. It was really, really hard but totally a blessing from the Lord.

That being said...since we are now a dog-free establishment, Kensington has really become obsessed with my brother's two dogs, Lola and Ellie (a boxer and a lab). She talks about them all the time and is always wanting to go hang out with Uncle Seanie and his dogs. Her favorite part of being a co-dog owner with her uncle...walking them...or as you can see...her being walked by them. Yesterday, she went to the park with them and Seanie let her walk Lola...

I personally think Kensington having dogs that live with, are cared for by, and paid for by my brother is the best scenario for our little family.

Sittin' with Santa

Tonight, we took the kids to the Galleria to sit in Santa's lap. They were P-R-E-C-I-O-U-S. This year was so easy that it kind of went by as a blur. We walked into the mall and right up to Santa (no line). Kensington hopped right up there, sat sweetly and asked for a pony. She said "cheese" and jumped off. Then Smith ran right up there, sat sweetly, asked for a scooter, said "cheese" and hopped off. That's it. Done. No melt downs circa 2009. Nothing but sweetness and smiles for Old St. Nick.

They won't believe in this for long. I'm trying to soak it up.

All of my friends have taken their kiddos to the Gaylord Texan Hotel and Resort this year to see the Christmas lights and since Lovie and Papa Jay live right next to it, we decided it would be foolish not to check it out ourselves this year.

We ate lunch inside the hotel at one of their many restaurants. It was very yummy!

Then we looked through the shops and walked through the Christmas wonderland.

It's hard to believe that it was exactly one year ago today, when we went on our first carriage ride around down town McKinney. We decided to make this an annual tradition and continued last night.

First, we ate dinner at Square Burger, followed by ice cream next door. Here we are eating ice cream and waiting on our carriage ride.

On Tuesday, these 4 Shull turkeys traveled to Missouri to visit the Shull side of the family.

6 hours is a long time to be in the car!

We ate lunch on Wednesday at one of our favorite spots...Sandstone Garden. Smith loves his PawPaw!

Then, Cheryll and I did some shopping on our own. This included me visiting my very first John Deere store. And look...I coincidentally am wearing a green coat! This was my first (and most likely last) visit to John Deere. I'm too city for these folks. :)

Later that night, we met up with the guys and kids for dinner and some mall shopping.

Then we did the coolest thing EVER! Way back in September, when we had K's Tangled birthday party, I purchased these Chinese lanterns (like from the movie Tangled)...well, Texas still had a burn-ban, so we weren't able to send them up. Sooooo...we took them to Missouri and set them off there instead. Words can't describe how cool these lanterns were. They were big (about the size of Smith) and floated waaaaaaay up in the sky. It was just like the movie. (You'll notice, my sweet girl was so excited to watch that she ran outside before I could cut the price tag off of her jacket!).

Uncle Dave was so sweet. He spent the longest time outside with all 4 kids. He was helping them slide, cheering them on...being sooooo sweet to the four kids!

Best part of my vacation...on Thanksgiving night, both of my babies sat in my lap for 30 minutes while we watched Toy Story 3. I am so thankful.

A chair to call his own

For Christmas when Kensington was one, we bought her a Pottery Barn Kid's chair with pink monogrammed slipcover. Well, three weeks later, we had our little man and for some reason, that became his chair and not Kensington's. He's always loved sitting in the Pottery Barn chair and Kensington has preferred the regular chairs. (I'm sure you've seen 154 pictures of Smith in his sister's chair.) The other day, he kept saying, "I'm going to go sit in my pink chair" and I thought enough already. So, I ordered him his very own slipcover, we retired Kensington's pink one, and the boy has his own blue chair now. When it came on Tuesday and I put it on the chair form, he was so excited. He was genuinely thrilled with his new blue chair. Every man needs a good chair.

Andrew and Tab went out of town for a football game, so Erika, Sarah and I loaded the kids up and headed to the Dallas Zoo on Friday. Here we are...35 minute drive, 6 kids, one "accident" in her panties (she shall remain nameless but thank goodness it wasn't Kensington!), one infant diaper change, and three strollers later, we enter the zoo. All 5 big kids have suckers as a reward for getting from the car to the entrance peacefully. (Yes, we are moms that bribe!)

I love this picture. Don't they look "done"! Ebby Lee is mid hair bow ripping out, Smith is stealing something from Nixon and I'm pretty sure Kensington is moving Molly away from her. We did have the best time though. We heart the zoo!

We came home from the zoo, took naps, showered and changed and then headed to the mall. We had 3 kid's meals, 3 sugar cookies, browsed some stores and had the best time together. Even though we really missed Daddy, we managed to have a lot of fun!

They are so excited that Mama found them Christmas Poptarts yesterday at Walmart! Poptarts and oranges...the perfect breakfast!

Smith & Mommy's Day-cation

This morning, I woke Smith up at 7:00, loaded him in the car and we headed off to Canton. Andrew was going to get Kensington to and from school, so that me and my boy could have a little day-cation :). The weather was really chilly (43 degrees), so we sang Christmas carols all the way there (almost 2 hours of Buble carols!).

We met Lovie and her BFF Bree at Canton for some shopping.

We ate stuffed spuds and chocolate pie for lunch. (I know this is a bad sunny photo but his expression is just too sweet!)

And we had the best day! I love my boy so much!!

...my kids' new passion is Halloween. We've been talking about this holiday for two months but they didn't really get it until after the first house gave them candy...then they were obsessed! Kensington has talked non-stop for two days about how she can't wait for Halloween to arrive again. My kids have found their favorite holiday :).

We went over to my Mom's on Halloween night for dinner and trick-or-treating. She always decorates things so cute!

Kensington was supposed to be Fiona from Shrek but after already wearing it to two other parties this year, she asked if she could be Cinderella instead. (Thankfully, my brother had purchased her a Cinderella costume for her birthday). So, here are Cinderella and Shrek.

Our dear friends the McAnallys, hosted a fabulous Halloween party last night and I did the WORST JOB EVER taking pictures. Andrea's house was decorated inside and out super, super cute, the food was delicious and very creative, and everyone did a great job with their costumes. Thank you so much Dave and Andrea for having us over! We had so much fun!

Spook-tacular Day!

What a spook-tacular day we had yesterday! First, Kensington's class all wore their pjs to school, so that was just too fun for her, then they had a class pizza party followed by a class Halloween party. Andrew, Smith and I came up for the Halloween party and had so much fun!

I was in charge of bringing dessert...of course. I brought iced jumbo sugar cookies...and of course, I ate one myself!

For 45 minutes, this is what Smith did. He is the most low maintenance kid ever. Ever.

Ok, remember this post about Kensington's first day of ballet? The thing is...she hated it. We went 3 times and she cried every time. I don't blame her...standing there for an hour doing plies is pretty boring (I took ballet for 15 years, so I can say that with confidence), so we tried gymnastics. Well...it only took about 3 seconds for her to decide she LOVES gymnastics. Yesterday, was our 6th lesson. She loves it. Loves it! The only hitch is that she still wants to wear her ballet skirt and leotards to gymnastics...so please ignore that :).

I'm holding Smith and taking pictures through the glass, so please disregard the quality...do you see her there doing stretches. So sweet!

Smith told me to take a picture of him, so here we are waiting an hour for K to finish gymnastics.

This is how Smith sits for an hour every week. He just sits in my lap and looks through the glass. He has never asked to get down and run around...never cried...he just watches. Haven't I mentioned the fact that he's low-maintenance yet? :)

Then, last night, Ebby Lee and Nixon came over for dinner while Tab and Erika went to dinner and ran some errands. Our big plan was to roast hot dogs and s'mores out by the fire on the patio. Well, it was raining, so we brought our campfire inside (so to speak). Andrew still cooked everything outside, we just had a picnic inside instead. So much fun! I love these kiddos!

Today is my 30th birthday. I know...sooooo old! I'm really not bothered by turning 30 at all. Truthfully, I've been acting like I was 30 since I was 13, so it was about time I caught up with myself. What did I do on this special day? Well, I went to the orthodontist and speech therapy. Isn't that what all 13 30 year olds do on their birthday? Between appointments, I did a little shopping and visited my beloved Starbucks...then tonight, my parents took us and Sean out to dinner to celebrate. It was delicious! This past Sunday, my mom and dad hosted a party for me at their house. I know they really, really wanted it to be special. They worked so hard putting it together. No detail went unnoticed...from the invitations to the decorations, the party favors and the twinkle lights hanging in the trees...I will remember it forever. Thank you Mom and Dad. Love you.

Chainsaw Massacre

Let me start from the beginning...a week ago, I told Andrew that he needed a hobby. His (very sweet) reply was that his kids were his hobby. After work, he just wants to spend time with his family. As sweet as that sentiment is...the man needs a real hobby. You know...fishing, golfing, reading, biking, online gambling...ANYTHING...just a hobby where he can relax his mind and do something for himself. About two days after our talk, he told me his new hobby was going to be chainsawing things. Yes. My husband picked chainsawing down stuff as his hobby. (Somewhere out there is a psychiatrist who could probably write a long essay on the mentality behind a man picking a chainsaw as a hobby...if you're reading this Dr. Psychiatrist...email me). Anyway, I digress...for the last week, he's been chainsawing things and really enjoying his hobby (I know, weird and disturbing, right?). Well, apparently God is in favor of this new found hobby because at 1:30 this morning, it sounded like an airplane hit our house. It was in fact, our tree in the back yard. Ahhhh...the perfect (and super unfortunate) thing to happen to a man whose hobby is chainsawing.

This morning, I opened the bedroom window to see my (usually stunning) view. It looks like a South American jungle out there.

I walked across the house and instead of the golf course, I see this...more tree.

I opened the back door and the branches nearly knocked me down. Somewhere out there is my patio.

I caught a glimpse of our grill.

I cracked up today when my friend Andrea told me that maybe Andrew's passion will take him to one of those lumberjack contests you see on the Discovery Channel. Oh dear. I can only imagine where this new hobby will take him. In the meantime, if you need anything chainsawed, you know who to call :).

Fair-y Tale

Late yesterday afternoon, we made our annual trek to the State Fair of Texas. I have blogged extensively on my love for the Fair, on my love for Fair food, and how every time it comes around it reminds me of how blessed I am. Just in case you've missed it, click here to see my first post, here to see my second, and here to see my third. In a nutshell...four years ago, I was standing in line ordering my food at the Fair when the fertility doctor called to say my fourth round of IUI had failed and I was once again not going to have a baby. Fast forward four years...I have a three and almost two year old. Thank you Lord.

It was chilly and wonderful when we arrived. The temp was 63 :). Such a welcome relief!

...we could see that as she (and her daddy) were sliding down she was scared to death. As soon as they "landed", she bawled her eyes out and told me she would do better at the slide when she was older. Bless her heart.

We all finished with the carousel. Such a wonderful, wonderful evening!

These kids have definitely been the "happily ever after" to my fairy tale.

Since Sheaffer's blog is ~~annoying~~ private, I can't link you to it to see the cute pictures she took of the kids on Monday...so I stole the pictures off her blog and am publishing them myself. On Monday, sweet Sheaffer and Erika treated me to lunch for my upcoming birthday. They took me to my favorite restaurant in McKinney...The Pantry. They made sure I had pie...pumpkin (my favorite!). It was fabulous. Love you two!

Little Chefs

I recently blogged about our Sunday night pizza routine. Well last night, we pulled out two little individual pizza pans and let Smith and Kensington make their own. They LOVED it. My two little chefs stood on the stool and created their own little pizzas, then they waited and waited the 8 minutes for them to finally be cooked in the oven. Dinner time was extra special last night.

Favorite Friends

Last night, we had a grown-up dinner with some of our favorite friends, the Massey's. We go waaaaaaay back with Amber and Jordan Massey. Way back. I've known Jordan since the day he was born...I was all of 4 months old at the time, but a bond was formed that has continued to grow over the last thirty years. (Eeks! That's a long friendship!) About 10 years ago, he introduced me to a sweet girl named Amber Huey and our friendship grew tight and fast. Friendships this deep don't happen often, and you get very few during your lifetime. I'm blessed to be friends with the Masseys. We had a yummy dinner, we talked almost 3 hours in our booth at Brio and we laughed so much...we always laugh with them. Love you guys!

Wow! What a busy two days we've had! We are enjoying fall this weekend...

On Friday, we went and played with Carter and Mrs. Sheaffer. Smith's in a little house saying "hi!".

Do you froth at home?

Oh good heavens, look what I got!!! Two weeks ago, we went into Williams-Sonoma (my favorite store) and the lady must have seen the "I'm obsessed with coffee" sign on my forehead because she first asked me if I wanted a sample of coffee and then she asked me if I wanted froth. Froth! I was so happy, intrigued, delighted, joyous that I couldn't help myself but buy a frother too. It's the Nespresso version and it's my new best friend. I love it. Like it might be on our Christmas card this year I love it so much. While my coffee is brewing, I quickly press a button and hot froth is whipped up in 70 seconds (if I press the button twice, cold froth is whipped up for cold coffee drinks.). I mean seriously...I know I shouldn't be this joyous over froth but I am. I'm not ashamed of my love for froth. If you heart froth too, you must go out and get one today!

And no...this doesn't mean that I've cut down on my Starbucks a day. This just means that my morning joe is frothy.

On Thursday, we had record heat (98 degrees!) in Dallas for September 30th. I took sweet little Smith to Canton with Andrew's parents. He was soooooooooooooo good! He never fussed. Not one time. He sat happily in his stroller and was just an angel the entire (extremely hot) time we were out there. Kensington stayed at home where Daddy took her to school, picked her up and then took her to gymnastics. He said he loved doing all of that. It was a win-win day for us.

On Friday, I took Kensington to Charming Charlie's. She was in accessory heaven!

Lovie's birthday is September 12 and Kensington's is September 15...my family prides itself on having individual parties for everyone (we really just want more reasons to eat cake) but since this year, we were flying home from Denmark on September 12...and jet lagged on September 15...somehow, Lovie and Kensington's birthdays got all tangled.

Lovie's mama (my grandmother) and Kensington's mama (me!) decided to throw a tangled up birthday party for the birthday girls. My sweet grandmother hosted at her house.

Northern Europe Day 12: Heading Home

On this day, we headed home. I only took one picture...

...this truly sums up my kids on the 13 hour flight. We woke up at 4:00 AM, left the hotel and headed to the airport. We were blessed beyond words that the flight was only half full. This meant, that everyone on board was able to move around and stretch out. The Shull 4 claimed 8 seats. We were in Heaven. The kids slept a large part of the way home, but then when they were awake, they watched movies, colored and played quietly. They were sooooooooo good! I must give them credit!

We had a wonderful vacation. A huge adventure. We saw a part of the world that I've been wanting to see for a long time. Most of all, we were blessed beyond words to spend the time with my parents and grandparents. It's not often that four generations can do that. We love you Papa Jay, Lovie, Grandmother and Papaw! Next year, all new adventures! :)

Northern Europe Day 11: Copenhagen, Denmark

Today, we said goodbye to the ship. We had such a good time on board but we were back in Copenhagen and had a full day ahead of us.

After we finished our shopping and lunch, we headed into Tivoli Park. This is the main"thing" to do in Copenhagen and for good reason. You pay admission to enter this part Central Park, part amusement park, part shopping center, part restaurant central place. We spent hours here. It was beautiful and full of things for us to do.

Northern Europe Day 10: At Sea

After 5 days porting, we welcomed a relaxing day at sea.

Today, we headed off to Stockholm, Sweden. We had to take a bus and a train to get there from the boat...this is little mister on the train.

Kensington is digging into her purse looking for something. I mainly wanted to show the streets on Stockholm. They were very narrow and all of the little shops and restaurants were tucked in tight.

We stopped for dessert (I know...more dessert) at the oldest bakery in Sweden. My kids are sitting out front singing a song (loudly, I might add).

Papa Jay and Smith have a very special relationship. Next to Andrew, my dad is Smith's favorite person.

I took a picture of my dad taking a picture of the group. My dad is kind of the picture Nazi. By day 9, we were tired of his antics. If you zoom in, I'm sure you will see an irritated expression on everyones face :).

We finished off our day on the boat with dinner followed by ice cream and crepes (of course!).

I thought this picture was funny because while I wasn't looking, they swapped desserts. Now, she's eating his ice cream and he's eating her crepes.

Next stop...rest at sea.

Northern Europe Day 8: Helsinki, Finland

I was super, super excited about visiting Finland. I had always wanted to visit Finland and Sweden, which is one of the biggest reasons we took this trip. Finland did not disappoint. This was my very favorite day!!

We took a little 10 minute bus ride from the ship to downtown Helsinki.

It was chilly (probably high 50s) but Kensington insisted on using her jacket as a blanket instead of wearing it.

Finland was so beautiful and super clean. The city is built around parks and the water...there was an old town part and a new city center section. It was lovely.

As we were walking up the street, we smelled this delicious aroma. We went inside this tiny little bakery and found one little old lady baking away. I ate a gigantic cinnamon roll and one chocolate cookie for lunch. It was the best cinnamon roll and chocolate cookie I have ever eaten. And if you know me, you know I've eaten my fair share.

Smith loved his tour of Helsinki.

Yes people...we are back at that bakery. After we walked several hours more, we went back past the bakery and ate some more. I have no shame. It was delicious. I am tempted to pay the airfare to Helsinki today to buy some for lunch tomorrow.

Andrew and I took the kids to dinner on the ship that night. Smith slept right through it. Finland was FANTASTIC! I will definitely be back one day. I want to spend a week there. It was wonderful. Next stop...Sweden. Very fun!

Happy Birthday Kensington!

I'm interrupting vacation photos to wish my sweet girl a happy third birthday!

These pictures were taken on Tuesday, her first day of school. Sweet girl woke up at 3:30 AM ready for the day (darn jet lag). She was so sweet, stayed up and watched TV and played, then headed off to school. She never fussed, she never complained, she was so sweet and so happy to be going back to school (despite the fact that she went to sleep at 8:45 (after 13 hours on an airplane) and woke up at 3:30). What a trooper!

I know I've blogged about this a hundred times, but it must be said again. Kensington Kate Shull has been the biggest surprise of my life. Three years ago today, the Lord blessed me with a sweet girl that I wasn't always sure I'd be able to have. She is my little miracle baby. She makes me laugh. She amazes me with the things she says. She is such a blessing to her dad, brother and me. I love you so much Kensington. You are better than I could have ever imagined. God blesses me every day with you. Happy Birthday baby!

Northern Europe Days 6 & 7: St. Petersburg, Russia

When we booked our cruise, we had two days in St. Petersburg, Russia. In order to get off the boat in Russia, you had to either stay with a tour group the entire time (being shuttled in a bus, taken to lunch, and lead on a tour of some museums and stuff) or you had to apply for a Russian visa...well, we're not the "tour group" kind of people. We like to go off on our own, explore at our leisure, and do what we want to do. So, several months ago, we all applied for our visas. I had no idea how complicated this was...Andrew spent hours over the course of 6 weeks, communicating with the Russian Consulate, turning in applications, correcting and revising applications and finally getting us our visas (after paying the nice price for them...). Then, everyone kept telling me how we would be robbed, mugged, killed, tortured, etc. within the first few minutes of arriving. I had several people act as if I were taking my children to the red zone in Afghanistan. So, needless to say, after all we invested into these two days and after all of the grief, I was a little frazzled upon arriving in Russia and you know what...everything turned out beautifully. Russia welcomed us, we had a wonderful time, I bought several things for my home, we ate great food and my kids ran around like crazy soaking up the cool weather. Russia was fantastic!

The cab just dropped us off in the middle of St. Petersburg. In this picture, we've been in Russia about 8 minutes and so far, I haven't been robbed :).

Kensington was less than impressed with Russia. She'd rather nap.

We went to this great farmers market and of course headed straight to the cookie section. Who needs fresh fruits and veggies when you have homemade pastries? Sooooo yummy!

We walked through a park (still haven't been mugged yet) and let the kids play on the play ground.

Such a great first day in Russia!

Day 2 started a little drizzly but was wonderful. Andrew asked these two police officer looking people for a picture. I'm not sure they understood him but they cooperated.

We spent the majority of the day touring St. Peterhof. It was a grand palace with beautiful gardens. We toured (my kids did great on the tour!), had lunch, and walked the gardens. It was cold and kind of rainy, but we were all cozy warm.

Kensington loves her Papaw and Grandmother (they're actually her great-grandparents...shhhh...don't tell my Grandmother, she's in denial that she has great-grandchildren).

In the back of the cab headed back to the ship. It was about an hour ride.

We finished off every single day with a stop at the crepe place on board the boat. My new theory in life is "a crepe a day keeps the doctor away". They were so good!

Then we let the kids run around on the very top of the ship as we sailed on to our next port.

After that...we all hit the karaoke bar to watch Andrew sing. Here's the thing...Andrew Shull is quite the ladies man. (I know, shock, shock, right?!). BUT when you get him on board a ship with 1000 old ladies, he's really a rock star. These women LOVED him. He participated in karaoke night 4 or 5 times while we were on board. The old women couldn't get enough Andrew Shull. So funny! He did a great job!
