Bachelor Episode 10 Recap: We go to Thailand

I've waited 4 months to talk about this.  The longest four months of my life!

In case you missed it last night...we went to Thailand!

Now...if you know us, you know that we like to travel.  My kids had already been to 12 countries and between the 4 adults, we'd been to over 50 countries...so, traveling is our thing.  That being said, we flew for two days to arrive in Northern Thailand and then only stayed 3 days before flying home for two days.  Even your most experienced travelers would be exhausted after that!  Four days of flying and only 3 days of actually being at your destination is hard work!  But...we were so excited to do it!

On Friday, November 9, Lovie, Papa Jay, Andrew, Kensington, Smith and I arrived at DFW Airport to take a two day trek, 23 hours in the air, 4 flight journey to Chiang Rai, Thailand.

(see the black dot at the very, very top of Thailand...that's where we went)

Here are my little ones at the airport waiting for our first (of four) flights to Chaing Rai.

Oh yes, we have this under control...

When I see this picture, I think about how clean and fresh I look.  Two days later, after four flights with two small children, I did not look this clean and fresh!

Shhhhhh!  It's a secret that we're going to Thailand.

The trip started with a two hour delay at our home base airport...but nevertheless, we were excited and ready for this adventure of a lifetime!

Praise the Lord!  We made it to Chaing Rai!

This was our resort.  Each final destination situation is different but for this season, they couldn't fit the entire crew in one hotel.  Therefore, we stayed at this resort with a few producers and the lighting guys while everyone else stayed between two other resorts.  Sean and his producer Cassie stayed in the house where the episode was filmed.

The view from our balcony.  The Bachelor was kind enough to give me and my family of four two adjoining rooms.  It was beautiful!

Checking out Thailand

We couldn't let the kids go to sleep because we needed them to sleep that night.  It is a 15 hour time zone difference from Dallas to Chaing Rai...Kensington couldn't even keep her head up while we ate lunch.

So, we decided to let them swim in order to keep them alert and awake.

They had the best time!

I love these three!  Swimming in Thailand!

The next morning, we had our only free day.  At this point, it is Monday, November 12 (because we crossed the international date line, we completely missed November 10...weird, right?!).  On our free day, we went with Katy (our fabulous producer and handler sitting next to my mom) to ride elephants.  The following two days would be filming, so this was our only real day in Thailand.

This is my "what in the world are we getting ourselves into" face.

We went to an elephant habitat...and it was magnificent.  I really can't think of another way to describe it.

Kensington dancing with our Thai driver that shuttled us around for 3 days.

Look at us crazy fools about to ride elephants with our toddlers in Thailand.

This is us looking at the elephants going, "How do you expect us to climb up there?".

We're all still dumbfounded.  They literally said, "Grab its ear and pull yourself up.".  What?  Excuse me?  Grab what?  Pull wear?  I needed a ladder.  And a Xanax.

They showed us how they could get the elephants to do tricks.  I was still busy thinking about how the heck I was going to climb up there.  Little did I know...climbing up was the easy part.  Climbing down...not so much.

We're still dumbfounded.

But by the grace of God, we made it up.  I took several pictures of us climbing up...but I've been threatened by my mother never to post those on this website.  They're not the most flattering.

Papa Jay getting the swing of things.

Andrew made it up.

And I made it up too!  I kept asking what I was suppose to hold on to...and again, the answer was his ear.  Seriously people!  Couldn't you have given me a rope or something.  Reins maybe?  Nope.  Just his ear.

They asked me if I wanted Smith.  I couldn't yell out "heck no" fast enough.  I was just trying to stay alive up there...the last thing I needed was my two year old.  Papa Jay took Smith.  Just your average day of having your 2 year old riding on an elephant's forehead.

They hoisted Kensington up with Andrew.

And Lovie made it up too!

Before we went off with our elephants, we fed them bananas and sugar cane.

My mom looks like a pro!  She should join the circus.

Once.in.a.lifetime.

My crew about to head out!

Ok...quick pause...I don't have pictures of this but we rode the elephants for a long time...and waaaaay off the beaten path.  At one point, Andrew and my dad took their elephants into a lake and swam with them.  I'm not joking.  The water was taller than the elephants and they just walked right on through the water to the other side (with Andrew and my dad holding on).  It was incredible!

We had lunch at a beautiful restaurant after our elephant extravaganza.  This is Kensington looking at Burma...only a few miles away.

That night, we let the kids swim some more.  And drink fruity virgin drinks.

Smith had a snack (and yes, the tattooed man in the background is my husband).

After this mom and I had  Thai massages.  It was the best massage of my life!

And then we went to dinner with some of the producers.  Smith sat just like this for over two hours.

And Kensington like this.  They were beat.

Now...I have very limited pictures of the following two days.  But I have a few...

About 10 minutes after Catherine came in to meet us, we all looked over and saw this.

And he stayed like this for over 4 hours.  While we filmed a TV show...Smith napped.  The funniest part was that the crew kept leaning down and taking pictures with him.  I bet 20 people posed with sleeping Smith.

After two full days of filming in a house with no A/C (it had A/C but the producers shut it off, so that they could keep the doors open and it look pretty without hearing the A/C run...it was HOT!), we were done filming.  Andrew, Elan and me.  Elan just makes everything more fun :).

Cassie Lambert Scalettar (Sean's producer), Alycia Rossiter (one of the Executive Producers) and Katy Chen (our producer and caretaker for the week).  These three ladies are so sweet and I wish I could hang out with them all the time.  XO

And here we are...about to head home the next morning.  Two days later, we arrived back in Dallas.

Our experience with the Bachelorette and Bachelor was nothing but positive.  The producers and crew really create such a happy, family-like atmosphere.  Our trip to Thailand was short but it was fabulous.  I really do think the world of everyone involved in the production of this franchise.

As for the future...I'm just doing what I always do...I'm praying for my brother and his new relationship.  I'm praying for him to always trust in the Lord with all of his heart and live a life that pleases Him. Our life in Dallas is really simple...we love the Lord and we love our family.   The day Andrew and I turned in Sean's application for the Bachelorette was just a random Monday night.  We had no idea what would happen after that.  No idea.  This experience has been a blessing because we've been able to meet so many wonderful people, we've been able to travel the world and more importantly, we've been able to share our faith.

I've decided not to publish any mean or angry comments today about the show.  Normally, I publish all of my comments unless they have spoilers in them but today, I will not be publishing any that are rude, mean or hateful.

I started my blog 6 years ago as a way to scrap book my life.  I've been scrap booking my brother since day one and will continue to do so until I stop blogging (which I hope is never!).  Six years from now, you all will have moved on with life...many of you will even forget Sean was ever a Bachelor.  He will be old news.  But...I will still reflect back on my posts as a way to look at my family's past...and I don't want to look back at this post years from now and see hate.  This is a place for me to document my life...and right now, the Bachelor is a big part of my life.  But I want to look back and remember this as a good experience...and I don't need mean comments connected to this post to make me remember it in a negative way.  I would love sweet comments though!  This process wouldn't have been nearly as much fun without YOU!  From the bottom of my heart, thank you for cheering Sean on and being so supportive during this last year of our lives.  Thank you.

As always, you can check out my foodie blog here and Sheaffer's A Bachelorette Told Me To here.

XOXO

First of all, that recap was a hoot! How I would love to see the elephant-embarking pictures! I love the Bachelor but we are yet to see this season in Australia so I've been getting my fix from you. Second, good for you. Your blogs are such positive places to be and I think you are wise not to let any negativity seep in. Much love. x

Shay,
I have enjoyed reading your blog this season and wish Sean, Catherine, and your family the best. Your father made me cry last night when he told Catherine he would be his biggest fan. What a beautiful, wonderful family.

Question: How much time did you have each day with the girls? Did your children have a favorite? Thank you!

What a great show and outcome! Loved seeing Thailand, your sweet family, and a happy ending (really a beginning) for Sean and Catherine! Thanks for sharing the insider scoop/ behind the scenes of the journey with us. I am hoping the announcement Sean will make on GMA today involves another tv show, movie reviewer, or sports broadcater, or something. Sean did a n awesome job staying true to his faith and showing that he is a real person. Wishing your entire family so much more happiness!

Hi Shay,
I have loved reading your blog posts through the Bachelor process, and getting let in on all your behind the scenes knowledge. Your brother's proposal was one of the most heartfelt and genuine moments I have ever seen on TV, and him and Catherine look very happy and very much in love. I have a quick question - when did you and your family find out that it was Catherine that he was proposing to? When he returned to Dallas or did you know before the final rose ceremony? Thanks again for being such an example of a loving, open, beautiful family. Can't wait for the wedding!

Love your posts! I feel like I know your family so well all the way from Atlanta! So neat to hear about all the behind the scenes from the bachelor! I am so impressed on what good lil travelers your kids are! Oh, and would love to hear where your green top is from when you met Catherine! So cute! Anyways congratulations are your new future sis in law! Catherine seems like such a sweetie! Hopefully will see y'all on the tv wedding:)

Oh Shay! I love your blog, your family, your dad, and your brother! :) Y'all are just precious! I'm so curious to know your thoughts on how it all played out. I also have some questions...maybe for a future q and a.
1. How long did y'all get to visit with each girl?
2. How soon did you find out who he chose?
3. Have y'all been able to have contact with them as a couple since?
4. Are you excited about planning a TV wedding?

Thanks for being so great and sharing this experience with all of us!

Wow! What an amazing trip for you and your family! Riding elephants?! I can't imagine! You looked absolutely gorgeous last night...not a day over 21! Your mom obviously doesn't age either! Your twins are just adorable! I have a two year old baby girl. I can't imagine how she would act on an all day flying adventure. Probably not as good as your world travelers! I love your blog and am so thankful to "The Bachelor" for introducing me to it!

I only wish I had found your blog earlier in the season! I've loved reading your recaps - and most importantly, reading how important family and faith is to y'all. My husband and I only watch the Bachelor seasons when, and I quote "he isn't a total tool" (courtesy of my husband). This season we have watched because it's been refreshing to see a guy who carries himself with so much integrity. And your entire family does as well! Anyway, thanks for sharing all of this and I am even more grateful it led me to find your foodie blog - I've only followed for 2 weeks and have already made several recipes. My kids are close in age to yours - almost 3 - and so I figure if yours eat it, then mine will too :) Thanks again!

Megan said...

Just starting following your blog, you have a beautiful family!! Where did you get those green shorts? I love them :)

Melissa F said...

First of all, what a testimony of faithfulness that your family has shown on television - for that opportunity alone, I would say that this was all worth it. So many people have expressed how much they loved your family - especially your dad - and I believe God will use that example for years to come. You guys will not be long forgotten.

Thanks again for your Behind the Scenes view of the show. It has been really cool to see some of the things we wouldn't normally see as viewers... as I have said before, your brother became my favorite after Emily's season - and frankly, the only reason I watched this season was because he was the Bachelor. I loved seeing his faith and his true intentions shine through. I pray that he has found his True Love (and it seems as if he has). The viewers, especially this one, are going to miss our weekly visits with Mr Sean Lowe.

As it stands, you have gained a fan in me - I enjoy reading your posts and look forward to seeing your family grow and move on to your new home!

Blessings!
Melissa

All last night I kept thinking, "I can't wait to read Shay's blog tomorrow!" I am obsessed with your family. Your dad was so sincere and sweet in the episode, he must be just the best. I can't imagine a better father in law. And watching your mom's conversation with Sean, I want a relationship like that with my son. Favorite season of the bachelor ever, just because I love seeing a good Christian man who stays true to his values. Can you give us any behind the scenes details about how Sean and Catherine made it work after the show finished filming, before it was public?? XOXO

So incredibly happy for Sean and Catherine ... wishing them a lifetime of love, goofiness, and happiness! Furthermore, outside of the Bachelor world, I LOOOOOOVE the foodie blog ... I've made bunches of your recipes, but I made your lasagna soup last night in honor of the Bachelor finale! It was a hit with my family, but theres no surprise there!)! Love and prayers to you and your family!!

My favorite part of last nights episode was when Smith said "because Emily didn't pick you!" LOL!

Your family is seriously amazing! Your dad made me cry twice last night and I cried when your mom cried.

Also, your husband has some amazing arms and shoulders! But I bet you already know this.

Looking forward to hearing more about Sean and Catherine in the future!

I think one of the best parts of this season was discovering your blog and beautiful family! I'll be a fan for life. Thanks for sharing your journey! I loved your "before" travel photo. I travel frequently alone with my 2.5 year old and often thought it would be interesting to see side by side photos as I typically look like I've run 3 marathons in a row and been hit by a truck by the end of the trip. One of these days the airlines will start charging me for the bags under my eyes! :-D

All the best to you and your family!

Well done Lowe & Shull family! I can't say that enough. The entire season of the Bachelor was impressive because of Sean, your family, and because of God. It was fun to watch...even though I have never met you. Being that I have read your blog for 3-4 years I was surprised at a few things about your family during the show....
1. I thought you would have a much deeper southern accent :)
2. You never had a cup of coffee in your hand while on the show
3. None of your posts to the Bachelor included pictures of your food :(
I will continue to hold your family in my prayers and hope that you guys can get back to "normal". Again your family should be proud of the way you represented yourselves on national tv.

I didn't watch the show very much but I followed it through your recaps and on a couple websites. The lead never seems to choose my favorite so I stopped watching; however, I am truly glad that I found your blog. I love your food recipes and I'm always, always, always looking for outfit ideas. I'm 32 and a runner so I'm about your size too. I have 3 children, ages 6 and 5 (17 months apart) and a 15 month old --- yes, all the same father. :) I do get that question! :o) Because of my children, I enjoy looking at your pictures of your kiddos too. I love that you all are religious, just as we are and more importantly, you have so much love in your family, just as my family does. Hugs to your family as you return to some sense of normalcy and please know, you have picked up some readers that read your blog for reasons other than The Bachelor too! You have a lovely family, wonderful faith and awesome friendships - can't wait to continue reading about it all! :) Hugs!

I was blown away last night at Sean talking about having a peace from God and how He knew that Catherine was who God had for him ON LIVE TV IN AMERICA!! GO SEAN, PREACH!! I hope, pray and just know that lives were impacted for God by Sean. What an example of a man of God and what pursuing and praying for a relationship should look like. I pray that God blesses their relationship and blesses Sean for taking a stand for Christ to the entire world!! I know that is one of the main reasons why y'all sent in that application that night because God knew it would lead to this and HIM being glorified! Thanks Shay for taking a stand also and letting your light shine :)

Shay,
You are definitely a highlight of watching the show. You have "rehumanized" this process and show for me. It is easy to sit and home and get wrapped up in the drama or t.v. part and forget that there are lives and families behind it.
I pray the Lord's blessings and faithfulness on your family. It is so wonderful to see your devotion to your family.

Happy for you all,

I'm so sad that this season is coming to an end and we'll not have your recaps to look forward to on Tuesday mornings:( Thanks for making us, your fans, feel like insiders for a season! I learned so much!
And your family is AMAZING! I loved that ABC shed some quality light on Sean's faith last night, as well as your entire family's faith. Your dad was the highlight of the show last night and served an amazing example for my husband and I on how we'll one day welcome new members into our family. And although I hated to see your mom's tears, it was such a sweet and transparent moment when Sean took her for a walk to comfort her fears. You have an amazing family and it was so refreshing to see a faith based family hit primetime TV.

Blessings to you all! Thanks for taking us on this ride with you. I'm a huge fan and can't wait to keep following your food blog. Your recipes have already become part of our meal rotation:)

Shay...thank you for sharing through your blog. I have found it b/c of the Bachelorette - when Sean was on, but have remained a loyal reader and plan to continue. Your family is an inspiration. I was raised in a believing family and I want to pass on the love and support I received and then some. The words your parents expressed were so much the kind of parent I want to be to my three blessings. Your Dad totally makes me cry and I get emotional knowing that my hubby will hopefully be saying similar words someday. Bless you and like you said praying for Sean is the best thing! He is a Godly man and I pray that he and your family continue to be blessed.

Your hair looked just fine and those kids of yours are SO adorable! Many thanks to you and Andrew for sending in that application on a random Monday night b/c your brother has been my all time favorite Bachelor and I wish him, his bride & amazing family many years of happiness! I can't wait to see blogs that include them together in real life outside of the cameras and thanks to you and your fabulous blog I will be able to! Don't let the rude comments get to you, these people have nothing better to do than write nasty stuff from the other side of the computer screen! Thanks for sharing your journey and I hope you continue to do so for many years to come!

I wish Sean nothing but the best and, hope he and Cathrine have a happy life:)
You have a beautiful family!and I also like all the fashion advice as well:)

Hi Shay, thx for sharing your experience with us. I was so moved last night by two things (1) your dad is the warmest, kindest, most genuine man. He exudes love for his family and what he said to Catherine was incredibly touching. (2) watching Sean interact with his mom so sweetly and respectfully gives us a glimpse into his character. Your family is obviously full of love and respect for each other and it shows. I'm surprised you didn't comment on Catherine, but I hope that you love her and are happy with Sean's decision. Sean is so sincere and I hope they get married and have a happy life. Also, I've tried some of your recipes from your blog and have enjoyed them. Take care!

What a fun (and abnormal - in a good way) experience for your entire family? I know it will be so fun to look back at the show, your posts, and pictures in 20 years from now! Thank you for giving us a behind the scenes look at the show - so fun! And thank you for showing America that there are normal, sweet, genuine people out there that love Jesus and love their family like no other. Good stuff!

I don't remember how I stumbled across your blog a while back, but I am so glad I did. Sean's season of the bachelor has been a favorite one. I could see his sincerity throughout the entire season. I enjoyed following his story. I haven't seen the finale just yet because I wasn't home last night. I plan to catch up later today. (but I've been getting bits here and there on who he picked :)

I enjoyed this post of you guys in Thailand. Thank you for sharing! I'm sure it was quite difficult not to post when this happened! It seemed like such an exciting time for you and your family.

Blessings to you and your family! Loving your blog....I'll be staying tuned! :)

It's going to be so much fun watching this all unfold. Thank you for sharing your faith, integrity, love, and humor. Enjoy this wonderful adventure. Annie.

Hi Shay,
I am relatively new to reading your blog and I just want to tell you that I enjoy reading it (and your cooking one too!) and will keep checking in! I really enjoyed The Bachelor this season! I loved that your brother talked openly about his faith in our Lord. And I have to tell you that your dad made me cry when he talked to each girl! And then Sean's proposal made me cry too! My husband even watched last night, he is not a big Bachelor fan, and said it was very sweet. Congrats to Seean & Catherine and your families! :)

Dawn said...

Your husband is GOREOUS!!! My friends and I were watching last nights finale and of course we think Sean is just as handsome and hunky as can be. Then we saw you walk in with your beautiful children and then they flashed to your husband and we all said "DANG!! Look at the Brother-in-law!!!!" What an absolutely stunning family you have and your Mom and Dad were so kind. What great people you seem like. Very regular. Nice to see that on tv. Hope to see sweet Catherine in some family pictures soon on your blog.

Lee and Anna Hogan said...

What a great trip! I was watching last night and got my husband and said, "Look, that's Shay! That's the girl whose blog I read!!!" He goes, "You know you don't really know her, right?" Lol! Thanks for sharing the behind-the-scenes stuff with us. It has been really fun to read about your family and learn some new recipes. I really enjoyed seeing how genuine Sean was throughout this season. I got choked up last night seeing his reaction to your mom crying. It was such a true moment. You could just see how much your family loves one another. Looking forward to more blog posts!

Wow, I have SO many things I want to say this morning!

1. The FIRST thing I did when I woke up this morning was read your BLOG.

2. While watching last night, I thought to myself, "PLEASE tell me K&S got to ride ELEPHANTS after trekking all the way to THAILAND!!"

3. I could have stopped watching after the first 30 minutes of the show because, after seeing your FAMILY, I really didn't care about the outcome anymore. I seriously wanted to climb into my TV just to hang out with you all. Fiancee or not, Sean is abundantly blessed in life.

4. I have now added to my BUCKET LIST, right beneath "Have coffee with Shay and Lovie", "HUG PAPA JAY". You already told your readers last year, "No, he can't be your dad", but let's just say that if he were to write a book (which he totally should), I would pre-order it right now! Off to Google "Jay Lowe" to see if any of his sermons are on YouTube ...

5. Sean's going to be on DWTS! I had heard that rumor and thought you were foreshadowing it with your post a week or so ago about how K loved dancing around your family room, watching her favorite movie "White Christmas". I will look for you in the audience and hope K & S get to make another appearance as well.

6. Speaking of K & S, their cuteness did not get nearly enough air time last night.

7. From my previous comments, it is obvious that CATHERINE was not "my pick", but I join you in praying for your brother's happiness, as I do for all of my friends, knowing that God is all-knowing and all-powerful and His plan is far greater than the work of the producers of The Bachelor!

8. I think it is amazing that a conservative family with traditional values garnered the best ratings and such fan support. Liberal views seem to be glamorized on TV, yet you were a beautiful testament to the contrary.

9. I started watching The Bachelor(ette) after Brad's first season when he chose nobody and continued watching ever since because I never felt like I had "closure". Now, even though Catherine was not "my pick", I feel satisfied. I believe the show's purpose is to entertain, not to truly facilitate marriages. I was thoroughly entertained in a positive way.

10. It still brings a smile to my face when I think of Smith wanting to see the "water firemen" rescue Tierra and then being so perplexed by her running mascara!

11. I cried more in the first 30 minutes of the show than I did watching Lindsay get her heart broken just because the Lowe-Shulls are so beautiful, from your dad's words, to the tender way Andrew watches over your children, to the precious way Sean took your mom for a walk when she became emotional.

XOXOXO

Hi Shay! Just curious how much time you have been able to spend with Sean and Catherine and how your relationship with her is and your thoughts on your brothers proposal. :)

Laura said...

I was so pleased that Sean picked Catherine in the end! I think I actually would have been happy for him either way, he seemed to have a spark with both girls, but Lindsay just seemed so very young a lot of the time... and he and Catherine just seemed so natural with each other, like they'd been together for years. They certainly seemed like best friends on the After the Final Rose.

I totally thought they were going to announce that they were already married! Haha! Anyway great posts Shay, I will continue reading :)

I LOVE your mom! Can she adopt me?? (my mom passed away 20 years ago - just saying that so it doesn't sound like I have an awful mom! ;)

Anyway, watching the Bach. this time around has been so much more special b/c of your commentary here as well as your brother's integrity and kindness. Blessings to you and your sweet family.

p.s. thanks so much for the great advice on what to do about those shoes -- I'm heading to Nordstrom today to see if they have any thoughts on helping them fit, or possibly returning them.

Anyway, Loved your blog once again! I am so happy that this bachelor was based more on faith than any others that I have seen! Your family was truly an inspiration and positive influence for everyone to see. Thanks again.

Eek! You have so many wonderful comments; i'm not even sure how you'll read through them all! First, thank you for sharing and posting during your brother's season! It has been so wonderful getting a sneak peek and a behind the scenes glimpse into what goes into the show, and that y'all are real people! It was also amazing to see the faith that was poured out amongst Sean, and finally Catherine, and your family. I really hope that you'll continue to keep us up to date, with your family, Sean's run on Dancing With the Stars, and throughout the wedding process! I was so excited to hear them announce that they'll be getting married soon and on t.v.! Mostly, because I think it showed their faith in God and committment they made to each other. I turned off the t.v. thinking, that their relationship was real, and that they'll turn to God when any hardships come up, and not many couples do. Also, your dad was fabulous! And, I agree w/ the others- when he said that he'll be Catherine's biggest fan, it was the sweetest thing I have ever heard! I think in 6 years, i'll still read your blog, and by then, maybe Sean and Catherine will be having babies! Thanks for sharing your family with the world!

I have to admit, I normally watch The Bachelor and The Bachelorette for the laughs. It all just seems so silly and sometimes ridiculous. Especially since the relationships are usually over before the finale even airs.

That being said, I was so surprised last night by how caught up I was in Sean and Catherine's story. They look so genuinely happy together and it makes me think maybe good things can happen as a result of this silly show.

I wish them all the best!

You and your family have made watching this year's Bachelor so much fun. I love all the little glimpses into how the show is made. I'm also pretty sure that The Bachelor producers should hire you, your dad, and your mom to counsel all the future casts of this show. Your advice was always spot on!
For future blog posts, would you consider telling us any secrets or hints you have for traveling with toddlers? I dread 3 hour trips to grandparents...could not even imagine flying for 23 hours with them!
Also-what is your moms secret to looking fabulous and young?!? She's gorgeous!

Shay- I am a long time bachelor fan and once again am so sad that another season is over. I loved Sean and think he is just a plain and simple "class act". As a Christian, I thank you and your family for putting a true representation of what a Christian family should be out for America to watch.

As a dance teacher, I am so excited that Sean is going to embark on DWTS. I am hoping that you will continue to blog about those episodes too! I work at a large Christian Dance Studio in the DFW area where we nurture an environment of innocence and morality for competitive dancers in a world where those values are not always held important. If Sean ever needs a place near home to rehearse for DWTS, let us know. We would be happy to open up our studio to him.

Again, thank you for entertaining me all season with your posts!

Shay, I have so enjoyed getting to know (albeit from afar) you and your family. I enjoy reading your blogs--the Bachelor-themed ones and just the ones about your life. I watched part of the first season of The Bachelor (Alex Michel), but the show truly touched my heart when I saw Trista and Ryan fall in love during the first season of The Bachelorette. I watched the next few seasons, but at some point, my interest waned. This season, however, I watched every.single.episode. Why? Because it was Sean. I had come to know and love him on The Bachelorette when I watched most of the season with Emily. I was so excited to see the possibilities when the Bachelor was a man whose faith in God was evident. It made such a difference this season, and I believe it might even change the course of the show for seasons to come. I offer my thanks to you and your family for sharing your faith-filled lives with us. You represent Christ well as you demonstrate how wonderful a life informed by faith can be; you are kind, fun, adventurous, and beautiful inside and out.

What fun it is to see your pictures and learn about what you and your family experienced on your trip to Thailand! Thank you for sharing these.

I pray that God will bless Sean and Catherine with a fabulous marriage, and I hope to "keep up" with you and your family for a long time to come.

Pray without ceasing girl. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and all other things will be added unto you." Matt 6:33

Keep praying for your brother and your family. I wish him and you all the best.

P.S. he doesnt need to rush into marriage...take heedthe to his mother...sometimes I hate to admit it...but mothers know BEST.

I think the faith of your family is what made this Bachelor season so special. Thank you again for sharing!

You and your family are so classy.

Your love for the Lord shines through. I love your real-ness and honesty and kindness.

A bunch of friends and I were texting the whole show last night and all commented they wanted to see more of your family. Your parents are so gracious and kind. Now, I know none of you are perfect, but Christ for sure was seen in and through you.

And now I'm thankful to have new blogs to follow!

I SO enjoyed watching the Bachelor this season because Sean (and your whole family) have shown America so many amazing character qualities and I have loved keeping up with your blog and getting to 'know' your sweet family. Thank you so much for sharing your story from the Bachelor and I look forward to hearing more!

What an exciting time for your family! I have a few questions that I'm hoping you'll be able to answer:

How did you keep your kids from spoiling who Sean chose? Did you just not tell them, so they couldn't tell it to other people?

Has your family spent time with Catherine since the show ended? How does she fit in your family?

Tanya T. said...

Sean was gracious, caring, and so sweet the entire season. Good for him for sharing his faith. Your mother was so sweet last night. Loved it. What a breath of fresh air to see a family with values represented on tv.

I have to ask one question....and by no means do I intend it mean, so I hope you do not take it as such. But...is there a naked man in one of the pictures of the children swimming? The one with your children running in the pool....there is a man in the center of the picture. It made me laugh.

The Preppy Puppy said...

I really enjoyed following Sean's story this season and getting the behind the scenes scoop from you. He and Catherine seem genuinely happy and I pray nothing but the best for them in the future.

Your family seems so sweet and I think that really came through last night! Do you have any single cousins or anything? Ha, kidding! Sort of ;-)

Oh and your hair looked adorable - you had nothing to be worried about!

I think your wonderful family needs your own reality show on ABC!

I have been reading for a while..and fell in love with texas and all of your right away.

Next thing is next...are you going to write about a little insite. When did you know who Sean picked?? How did you like watching it play out? Worst moments/best moments of the show? I think the readers want to know SOOOO Much and all of it.
We are kinda like celebrity stalkers with you..we can't wait till you post again and again. We want the juicy details...as much as you can give
I pray the public leaves Sean and Catherine alone some so they can short out their things and begin to be (somewhat)normal!
OHH..and the wedding..tell us?

You are so beautiful! Wish they would've showed you more last night! I thought Sean did a wonderful job being the Bachelor. I'm sure it's a tough position to be in, especially when people are negative. I wish him and Catherine nothing but happiness! My question to you is are you happy with his final decision?! Hope we get to see your beautiful family filmed at the wedding and can't wait to keep following both your blogs! Blessings to you!

Shay, I really enjoyed reading your behind the scenes blogs, and I hope as time goes on we can hear more about the process. I hope you will blog bachelorette this summer and we will hear more from you. No other family member of a contestant has blogged like you have so I hope it is something others will do in the future. I especially enjoyed your Thailand recap. I do not know how you did it, taking 2 small children in such a short time on such a long trip. But it seems like they had a great time,

It is also nice that you opened up about your fertility struggles. I hope things continue to go good for you and I know your faith, etc will keep you strong in the weeks ahead bc I know sometimes the fallout from this show is not always easy to deal with (tabloids, etc).

Hope to see you in the audience at DWTS!!!

For the first time ever in the history of the bachelor, I would have been happy with either of the 2 ladies. I hope Sean and Catherine have many happy years together. I also hope Lindsey finds her Prince Charming. She's a sweetheart too.

I've loved reading all your posts through the season. After so often reading that reality shows are fake, and that people are edited to look bad, it's nice to hear such a positive experience.

And I also wanted to add, that I'm so happy that Sean picked Catherine. She just seemed so genuine, and they seemed to natural together.

And not sure if you're answering questions from this post, but I was wondering if Catherine spent the holidays with her, and what Kensington & Smith think of her.

And while I'll miss seeing you and your family on tv, I'm guessing we'll be seeing you all for the wedding. I can only imagine how adorable Smith & Kensington will be as a ring bearer and flower girl!

I watched this whole season knowing that I would not have to censor anything. I knew that your brother would not pull any less than tasteful stunts, and that there would not be any inappropriate behavior on his part. How refreshing!

I hope that he gets his wish, and that this ends happily for him.

Hi Shay,

Loved your recap! Best wishes to Sean & Catherine. You mentioned US Weekly reads your blog. Take note US Weekly: Women would love to see a reality show with real women like Shay. Enough of the fake "Real Housewives" drama. Let's see a normal family that we can relate to!

I'm telling you, I would watch! I love reality TV but it is so trashy...it would be so refreshing to see you or a women like you on TV!

God Bless :)

Well, Shay, I totally enjoyed following along this season with you, and I thought that Sean behaved in a manner that really honored your family. I mean, he IS a red-blooded young man, so I'm cutting him some slack here ;-) but his faith was at the forefront, and he treated all of the women with so much respect. I loved getting to see you and your beautiful family "in motion" on TV!

I am watching the show again on my DVR and was wondering if you could comment on your hair. Do you blow dry it out then curl? Or is it like that naturally? I have naturally curly hair but it just turns to frizz. If your hair is curly how do you prevent it from the frizz? How long does it take to do it like that, if not natural? Do you use curling iron?

I am struck too how much you look like your mom!

Shay, first let me say that I've loved your blog and it's wonderful to your faith.

I lost my father 12 years ago and my mother 20 years ago and I miss them terribly. Fortunately I have a lot of brothers and sisters (two sets of twins) and our connection has only strengthened over the years, which has been a great solace when losing your parents so young.

I just have to say that I love your parents and everything they both said on the show just warmed my heart.

I'm closer to their age than yours (45), but um, can they adopt me? Lol j/k.

Seeing your family on the Bachelor was the best single episode I've ever watched. Thanks for sharing y'all's wonderful lives, faith, and spirit with the world. :)

Hi Shay! First, Happy Anniversary...enjoy the lovely celebration :)

Thank you for all these amazing photos. Kensington sipping the virgin drink has to be too cute for words. Smith is simply adorable. Your parents are just amazing. Aside from adorable as a couple (on the outside), their personalities, wow, to see how open, honest, sweet, loving, I can see why you & Sean have the most amazing values you have. I fell in love with your family in that episode. I have to say, Sean is truly my favorite Bachelor. I watched the end of Emily's Bachelorette b/c of Sean... prior to that, the only other one, Trista & Ryan. That's it. That's how much I wanted to see Sean find love. His values, his honesty, truly amazing. Getting to know you on your blog, having you share your love for food & the Red Sox (I live in Boston), it's been great & I will continue to follow your blog. I'm happy Sean found Catherine. They seem to compliment each other well. Having Sean watch back the proposal & tear up, I thought "he's a real gentleman" and that's something you get only from your environment (mom & dad). Lindsey being sent home, I felt bad, but she was graceful & although hurt, she didn't come out fighting like AshLee. You could truly see the pain in Sean's face, and the tears, it was difficult & I cried too. At the same time, to watch him make his commitment to Catherine & see her reaction was truly magical. It's a lovely ending to the season & I know I'll enjoy seeing their wedding take place. I'm honored that they've chosen to share their special day with all of us. Keep these amazing blogs coming, I love to read them, love the tips & always enjoy the pics you post. (((HUGS)))

Thank you for allowing us into your family over the past few months as you have been going on the bachelor journey. It has been such a treat to get to know your family as well as your brother. Your kids are adorable as well as your parents (you and your husband are too!) I want a father-in-law to tell me exactly what your dad said to Catherine monday night. It brought me to tears how sweet and genuine it was. It has been such a pleasure getting to follow your journey on this blog as well. I love reading and am so happy that I found your blog. I will continue to read even though the bachelor has come and gone. I can't wait to read more!

Shay,

I started to watch the Bachelor again when my son was born a year ago while nursing. I knew that Sean was special when he was on dates with Emily. The only reason why I watched the season is because of him. And then I found your blog!

Your family is amazing. It was so refreshing to hear your parents talk about their faith on national TV. So many times people push their faith down and away because they feel it will turn someone off. I loved what your father said to both Catherine and Lindsay. What an amazing Christian heart.

Plus I love how you handled the final recap. Not hate messages!

I wish your family the best of luck with your new sister-n-law. I will keep coming back to check on your family, your faith and of course yummy recipes!

How could anyone be negative?! I just want to hug you all! Your dad was sooo sweet, I almost cried. I love that yall were able to represent Christ in such a big way on a show that has been pretty much the opposite for the most part. I could tell Sean was a great guy from Emily's season and that's the only reason I watched this season. I love how much God and prayer were mentioned on after the final rose. What a witness. You guys are awesome. Much love to you all!

Hi Shay,

I was so glad to see you again on the show (the finale). I really enjoyed seeing you and your family together. I can feel the love emanating from the TV! I wish Sean and Catherine all the happiness in the world as they get to know each other and figure out their lives together. I come from a similar culture as Catherine, and my husband is Caucasian (we've been married for 25 years), and I promise you that she will be the best wife/partner/soulmate ever to Sean. Our cultures are different, but we complement each other very well. As long as a relationship is based on love, honesty, respect, understanding, kindness, and patience, it will be long-lasting and beautiful. Open and frequent communication is important; in fact, my motto is "Communicate until it hurts!" This is key to my marriage, and after 25 years, I'm still very much in love with my husband and his family. I hope the same for Sean and Catherine. Cheers to all of you! Beth

So...I know this is kind of random but I am dying to know if Catherine and Lindsay brought presents for your kids? They were both carrying things in but they never showed what happened to them. I am so curious about that.

Also, did you get to have any kind of "engagement party" with Sean and Catherine after the final rose ceremony or was that not allowed?

I hope you get to go watch some DWTS in the front row :)

XOXO,

Hi Shay!

I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant with my "miracle" baby and she is a little bachelor predictor! My husband felt her kick for the first time during Catherine's hometown date so I took that as a sign and said we'll see if she's right......well, she was! I just thought that was too cute not to share:)

I loved Sean on the Bachelor this season! (I didn't watch Emily's season, so this was the first time I've seen him on TV!). He was such an amazing representation of what being a Christian in today's world is all about. He's such an inspiration, as are you! So excited about stumbling upon your blog, I'll be reading it for many years to come, I am sure!

I just wanted to comment to say how special the moment seemed to me between your mother and Sean while she spoke concerns over him proposing to either of the two women. The looks on his face was nothing short of precious, when he realized she was indeed crying. I greatly appreciated that he took her away from the cameras and kept her face away while she let her emotions show. It was the ultimate showing of respect and love for your mother. I pray that my son will one day be just as respectful to me when he ultimately ends up on the Bachelor due to prodding from his mother ( ;-) ).

Also, this morning on GMA the hosts were talking about Sean having a "pull like others haven't had before," and said something along the lines that people seem to be simply drawn to him. I hope he and all these people know that it is because of the light of Christ that he lets shine! It's been amazing to watch! I know I'm no one to your family, just your friendly Bachelor-loving-house-mommy, but I'm so proud for you family and have only well-wishes for all of you! Amazing family! Be blessed!

Best wishes to Sean & Catherine! I read that riding an elephant in Thailand was on Cat's bucket list. How romantic that Sean chose to do that for their date and at the end of the proposal. They seem like the real deal. Like Catherine said, she will be lucky to get your family in addition to marrying Sean. Your Dad made me cry. What a sweet soul. Wish the viewers were able to see more footage of your family. I'm sure you spoke to each girl. I would've loved to see that.

I pray they don't let the things of this world crowd Jesus out of their lives. And I pray for your family as you all welcome Catherine into your lives. May you all have an abundance of love, grace and patience. May your love for Jesus overflow into her life so she may truly come to know Him and His love. Blessings to your whole household.

Congratulations on your new sister-in-law and your family's amazing adventure in Thailand! You seem like an incredibly warm and supportive sister, and your husband showed a lot of class on the show -- being there to show support with no interest in grabbing the spotlight. I thought it was great you didn't put pressure on your brother to pick one person or the other. Catherine brings out the fun in Sean -- I had no idea he was that funny until I saw him with her. I wish them both nothing but happiness.

Thanks for sharing your experiences and wishing you continued blessings!
