Happy Birthday Smith William!

Three years ago today, my world changed forever.  I went into the hospital for my scheduled c-section not knowing if the sweet baby inside was a boy or a girl.  At the time, I had a 16 month old girl, so I thought I wanted another girl.  A boy would have been fine but I knew girls...a girl would be the better choice, right?  Wrong.  Oh, I was so wrong.

This little man changed my life within seconds of seeing his sweet face.  I needed a boy.  I was meant to be a mom to a boy.  I adore my boy.  I am blessed beyond words to be the mom to this boy.

My road to mommyhood was hard and long.  I always prayed for God to just please give me one baby.  Just one.  And then I got two.  Kensington was my blessing but Smith was God's ultimate icing on the cake.  I love the scripture Ephesians 3:20, "God can do anything you know-far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams."

I asked for Kensington.  I prayed and prayed and begged God for Kensington.  And he answered that prayer (not in my time but in His).  However, I didn't ask for Smith.  God just blessed me with him.  He knew what I needed when I didn't even know to ask for it.

January 18, 2013, my boy is three today.  I love his big blue eyes, his dimples, the fact that he sleeps a lot :) and most of all, his sweet spirit.  Happy Birthday Smith William.  I'm so grateful God knew I needed you.

  7. I will never forget going to the operating room and the nurse telling me that it was going to be a girl, based on the heart rate and other factors. She made the comment that she is never wrong. I was heartbroken inside. No one at the time knew, but I wanted a boy so bad. When I saw the doctor pull my little boy out, I don't who cried harder, me or Smith. Yes, I am a weeper when it comes to things like this. I am so thankful for my sweet boy.

  14. Happy Birthday to Smith! My daughter, Elleanor, turns 8 today, too! January 18th is a great day! Love reading your blog post every morning!

I have a silly question, but since I LOVE the names of your kids, here we go... you didn't know that Smith was going to be a boy, so what girl name did you have picked out?

  15. Did Andrew write that comment - melting my heart!!! Does having a 3 year old make you reconsider "never being pregnant again- ever"?!
I was also wondering the demographic of most of your followers - I am a SAHM with 3 little ones and I love your blog! Just wondering if I was the "norm" or if you got all age groups and males and females?

  16. Here are some answers to your questions:
    1. Yes, Andrew left that sweet comment. I'm pretty sure it is the first one he's ever left!

    2. I am not reconsidering being pregnant! This mama did not do well with pregnancy!

    3. If Smith had been a girl, she would have had a British name too, Ashby London.

    4. I think most of my followers are women between the ages of 22 and 52.

Thank you for all the love today! This is such a special day for us!

  21. Happy Birthday Smith! He is so stinking cute! I have loved reading your blog over the past few months. I first came across it when Sean was on Bachelorette. Your writing totally drew me in and I've been hooked ever since! Your family is adorable. Fun Fact: You are the only other person I have ever known of to have a Kensington. My five year old is also Kensington....they are a rare breed! :) And now today I see that your little Smith and my youngest daughter Presley share the exact same birthday...she turned three today too! Craze! Reading your journey to motherhood brought tears to my eyes. God is so faithful, but He also is so incredibly good! You are blessed!

  25. Happy Birthday to your sweet boy! Your heartfelt post captures exactly how I feel about my little boy. I had a baby girl first who was my world. I prayed for her for three years, she was my everything. God then blessed us 27 months later with the birth of our son. My heart doubled inside at the very moment he was born. What a blessing being the Mommy of both a boy and a girl!
